It seems to me that the total lack of social conscience and the Hasidic-like contempt they hold for non-JW humanity, as well as the ``lukewarm''half of their own kind who lag behind in field service and meeting attendance, is their biggest obstacle to becoming a maintstream Millenarian relgion ala the Seventh Day Adventists.
In this respect, even the ``Plain Truthers'' who share so many of the WT doctrinal ideas, are light years ahead of the JWs when it comes to accepting a constuctive role in society at large.
I think that this, and not the bankruptcy of their chronology, is their cancer.

Matthew 25
by Farkel inwhen did we see you a stranger and receive you hospitably, or naked, and clothe you?
he was talking about food, clothing, shelter and supplication to the least of the brothers.
he could not be talking about anything else and here is why: could any human offer jesus spiritual food?

Right on, Farkel,
I've often thought exactly the same thing about this parable and how mindless sectarian dogma vitiates its entire impact on JWs.
Limiting the interpretation of who Jesus' brothers obliterates its true meaning..by calling himself ``The Son of Man'' was he not embracing the whole human race as his family? -

OH Veeenus and Sereeeeenaaaa.......
by LDH inwell, unlike some, i don't begrudge the williams sisters their fame or fortune.. on the other hand, i am thinking of how their example can be used to set some jw kids free.. for instance, "dad, if venus and serena can listen to ol dirty bastard and mystikal, why can't i?".
or how about, "dad, look, this article here says that venus and serena are jws and yet they participate in sports.
why can't *i* be on the track team?".

Madapostate,
Interesting point you make on pronunication. You'ld be surprised how many JWs persist in referring to themselves as ``a Jehovah Witness.'' When I was growing up, I was constantly coached into saying that I was ``one of Jehovah's witnesses;'' even referring to oneself as ``I'm a Jehovah's witness'' was a no-no. -

Inappropriate Guilt & the September 2001 KM
by Nicodemus inwith respect to the article on the back page of the september 2001 km which has been reproduced in another thread, it is my hope that all hard-working jehovahs witnesses consider the balanced counsel provided in the official journal of jehovahs witnesses, the watchtower, as highlighted herein:.

Nico,
Among the things we need to be liberated from is the preoccupation over what others think of us and our lifestyle. As long as we acquire life's necessities honestly, who cares what the elders may make of our career choices? You can't please everyone, and the fastest way to go crazy is to try...... -

Our Goal - Help them LIVE LIFE
by joelbear inwhat should our goal be as individual exjw's who are still tied to the organization through family and friends.. our goal should not be to bring down the watchtower.
our goal should not be to get people to stop being jw's.
our goal should be to help people live a full life whether they remain a witness or not.. attack the dangerous ideas that keep people from living their life.. ideas like:.

Right on, Joelbear!
Your post is as outstanding for its content as it is for its brevity.
Once I left Bethel for the real world, the first myths to fade was that of our uniqueness as a ``special people'' and the total absence of virtue or decency among non-JWs.
As I've stated once in an earlier post: If called upon to make a list of the ten finest and ten worst people I've ever met, there would be JWs and non-JWs on both. -

WT Defence of House to House Preaching PT.2
by stevieb1 ini am doing an intensive analysis of my beliefs as a jw, and would like any comments on this further defence of the house to house preaching methodology put out by the wts.as far as i can tell no-one has yet refuted this comment:.
*** w91 8/1 24 "from house to house" ***.
"from house to house".

Hi Steve,
Although the WT argument seems more of a plea for a cause, there's nothing inherenetly objectionable to the concept of door-to-door witnessing. The problem to my mind, is that the WTS elevates it as THE sole approved way of getting their message out, a veritable touchstone of one's faith. It's been demonstrated to be a relatively ineffcient means of communicating the message, especially with the sort of institutionalized desultory dawdling most JWs have developed (feet-dragging, coffee breaks, splitting at the crack of noon if not before, etc. etc.) What about preaching publivc venues?
It's deteriorated into little more than a ``feel good'' exersize for JWs. If the WT truly beleiveds that billions of people, or 99.9 percent of the world's population face imminent incineration, why not
use the most modern menas available to them or anyone who wants to get out a vital message-- radio, television, etc.? -

Reform....why?
by Deacon inthe organization cannot be reformed from outside; that can only come from individuals who have the guts and will to do so inside, and the determination to get rid of hardline thinking that is so strangling.
my personal desire is to see immediate change regarding the child abuse policy, and that will come.
to see a clear, quick change in the horribly inconsistent blood policy rather than drag it out over years; kids are dying in the process.enforced shunning is also an evil that they will have to deal with eventually; it's ripping them apart.. .

You Know,
Greetings. A question: just how ``pure'' is the ``language'' that assured the High School Class of 1969 (or at least the baptized JW contingent thereof) that they would never grow old, much less die? -

Elders meeting tonight?????? Need advice???
by MrMoe inwell - my father (he's an elder) asked me if he could watch my daughter saturday night and i could pick her up sunday at the meeting or he would drop her off at my house.
well, they have offered to watch her overnight plenty of times, but he has never offered to drop her off at my house on a sunday!
the clincher - he said he would normally watch her tonight since it's a friday, but he has an elders meeting.

MrMoe,
If it comes about that for whatever reason you meet with the elders, why not turn one of the favorite WT rules of ``Theocratic War Strategy'' on them? You know, the one that ``we're not obliged to share the truth with those who aren't entitled to it.''
Play smart. -

Like any living organism, survival is the WTS' overriding priority. It may well prefer prosperity to survival, but if it comes down to a choice of relent or wither away, which seems to be happening, there's no doubt what course they will take, however reluctantly.
It would seem that the swirling whirlpool of incessant discolosure is dragging Brooklyn kicking and screaming toward the vortex of mainstream religion. -

Do bethelites get social security?
by sleepy ini was just wondering you know whether in bethel workers get credited with whats called in britian national insurance.. in britian you carnt miss six years of payment and expect a full goverment pension which isn't much anyway.also you cant claim full income support , sickness benifit or job seekers allowence if you have missed or underpaid you ni.. this came to mind as my wife worked for a company that didn't pay contributions for her .. when latter on she lost her job the goverment wouldn't pay her any job seekers allowance as no ni contributions were credited for that year.. so does bethel pay ni contributions for bethelites and circuit overseers and the like.

So MONEY is the hidden agenda behind the ``voting is now a matter of conscience'' ploy by the WT? What a surprise!
